Visit our online directory of locally owned, independent businesses in Portland — and don’t be surprised by the variety, affordability, and quality of the goods and services you’ll find once you start thinking local! To see how we define "locally owned" and "independent," go to About Us.

Portland Buy Local is a campaign of the Portland Independent Business & Community Alliance. Our mission is to support locally owned, independent businesses in Portland, to maintain our unique community character, provide continuing opportunities for entrepreneurs, build community economic strength, and prevent the displacement of community-based businesses by national and global chains.

We are affiliated with the national nonprofit American Independent Business Alliance.

Get Involved

Become a Member

Becoming a member is the most important thing you can do to support this campaign. Individuals, locally owned independent businesses, and nonprofit community organizations that meet our eligibility criteria can become members. Download the Membership Application and return the form with the appropriate membership fee. Membership benefits and fees are listed on the second page of the application.

When your membership application is approved, we will deliver a campaign kit with materials that you can use to help spread the word, including window decals for business members. We will also add your listing to our online directory.

The current membership year is from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. Participants who joined the campaign between February and May of 2007 can deduct their initial $20 contribution from their membership fee.

Volunteer

Portland Buy Local is an all-volunteer effort. We need more volunteers to help us complete specific tasks as well as to serve on working committees. Please consider donating some of your time. Contact us for more information.

Come to a Portland Buy Local Event

We regularly organize events to bring campaign participants together and create opportunities for people to learn more and get involved. Check the news items on the home page for announcements of any upcoming events.
