Portland Buy Local is a campaign of the Portland Independent Business & Community Alliance. Our mission is to support locally owned, independent businesses in Portland, to maintain our unique community character, provide continuing opportunities for entrepreneurs, build community economic strength, and prevent the displacement of community-based businesses by national and global chains.

Get Involved

Become a Member

Becoming a member is the most important thing you can do to support this campaign. Individuals, locally owned independent businesses, and nonprofit community organizations that meet our eligibility criteria can become members. Download the Membership Application and return the form with the appropriate membership fee. Membership benefits and fees are listed on the second page of the application.

When your membership application is approved, we will deliver a campaign kit with materials that you can use to help spread the word, including window decals for business members. We will also add your listing to our online directory.

Although we support independent businesses throughout Maine, because of our limited resources and capacity, the Portland Buy Local Campaign is currently limited to businesses located in the city of Portland. If you have a business elsewhere, we encourage you to start a similar initiative in your community. For how-to resources and advice, please see Starting a Buy Local Campaign in Your Community.

Support the Goals of Portland Buy Local

Here are some ideas for what individuals, local businesses, and nonprofit community organizations can do to strengthen Portland's local economy and help achieve the mission of Portland Buy Local.

Volunteer

Portland Buy Local is an all-volunteer effort. We need more volunteers to help us complete specific tasks as well as to serve on working committees. Please consider donating some of your time. Contact us for more information.

Come to a Portland Buy Local Event

We regularly organize events to bring campaign participants together and create opportunities for people to learn more and get involved. Check the news items on the home page for announcements of any upcoming events.
